Our meetings bring partners and community members together to discuss how we can make our communities healthier places. We work on creating healthy resources for our communities, influencing public policy, and planning educational events for the public and for professionals.

April 4, 2017

In April the KCHC met in Shelby, Bullitt and Barren Counties simultaneously.  Representatives from KY Voices for Health and the KY Center for Economic Policy discussed the impact of the Affordable Care Act in KY and what it will mean for KY if the ACA is repealed.

In February the KCHC met in Shelby, Bullitt and Barren Counties simultaneously.  Dr Antimisiaris from UL spoke about Geriatric Polypharmacy which is using 5 medications or more at the same time.

December 6, 2016

In December the KCHC met in Shelby, Bullitt and Barren Counties simultaneously.  We continued our series on dementia by discussing ideas to incorporate dementia-friendly learning into the community. Coalition members were asked to talk to various community members.

November 1, 2016

In November the KCHC met in Shelby and Bullitt Counties simultaneously for an Alzheimer's simulation.  Members experienced what each day is like for a person with Alzheimer's by trying to perform tasks while their audio and visual senses were altered.  Later members discussed how this made them feel. No minutes were taken.

October 4, 2016

In October the KCHC met in Shelby, Bullitt and Barren Counties simultaneously.  Our series on dementia began with a discussion on how our community can become dementia-friendly, presented by Sam Cotton, PhD candidate from the Institute for Sustainable Health & Optimal Aging.  The trophy for the County Challenge Walk was won by Oldham County with 251,188 steps.  Henry: 142,239 steps; Shelby: 110,278 steps; Bullitt: 94,530 steps; Trimble: 7,055 steps.

September 6, 2016

In September the KCHC met in Shelby, Bullitt and Hart Counties simultaneously.  The alignment of the KCHC and HRSA was presented.  We were reminded of upcoming events.

We watched a video featuring Dr Keyes discuss flourishing.  Dr Faul and Dr D'Ambrosio discussed How Do You Flourish as You Age?

August 2, 2016

In August the KCHC met in Shelby, Bullitt and Barren Counties simultaneously.   During the meeting we had an update on the grant progress from Dr. Joe.  Sam updated us on the dementia portion of the grant and Madri updated us on the Plan 4 Health grant. We were reminded of upcoming events.

Dr Furman discussed caring for the aging members in our community.

July 5, 2016

In July the KCHC met in Shelby, Bullitt and Barren Counties simultaneously.  The HRSA Grant and the training of healthcare workers were presented and the coalition's progress on meeting the goals was highlighted. 

Elle Harbaugh of United Way of Southern KY and Glen Powell, 211 director at Metro United Way, discussed 211.

Interest groups were formed and members brainstormed about upcoming speaker topics, upcoming events, themes for upcoming meetings.
